Orison Swett Marden
1848 to 1924
Orison Swett Marden was an American writer and publisher, orphaned young in New Hampshire, who worked his way through college and into the hotel business before a fire destroyed what he had built. He turned to writing, and in 1897 founded Success magazine.
His many books on character, work and confidence sold in the millions and were translated across Europe. Prosperity: How to Attract It, from 1922, is one of the last, written in the plain, encouraging voice that made him the most read author of his kind.
