Graham Wallas

1858 to 1932

Graham Wallas was an English social psychologist and political scientist, one of the founders of the London School of Economics, where he taught for decades. He wrote on human nature in politics long before the subject had a name.

The Art of Thought, from 1926, is the book for which he is remembered today: its four stages of creative thinking, preparation, incubation, illumination and verification, remain one of the best-known accounts of how new ideas arrive.
