George Lincoln Walton
1854 to 1941
George Lincoln Walton was an American neurologist who practised and taught in Boston. He treated people whose nerves had worn thin, and he noticed that much of their suffering came not from events but from the habit of worrying about them.
Why Worry?, published in 1908, grew out of that practice: a doctor’s calm, often funny advice on fretting, indecision, the fear of being ill and the tyranny of small things. It was reprinted for years and read far beyond his patients.
